Kuwait City

kuwait city pictures

Kuwait City was first settled in the early 18th Century by the Al-Sabāh clan, later the ruling family of Kuwait and a branch of the Al-Utūb tribe (that also included the Al-Khalīfah clan, the ruling family of Bahrain), and their leader, Sheikh Sabāh I. Its name may have derived from an earlier abandoned fort located there, called "Kūt" (كوت) – Arabic for a fortress by the sea.
The settlement grew quickly, and by the time its first wall was built (1760), the town had its own dhow fleet of about 800 and trading relations to Baghdad and Damascus. It was a successful and thriving sea port by the early 19th Century.
It was unclear whether or not Kuwait was part of the Ottoman Empire, and as a result, tensions often broke out between the sheikhdom and the empire. These tensions peaked when, in 1896, Sheikh Mubārak Al-Sabāh assassinated his brother, the emir Muhammad Al-Sabāh, over Mubārak's deep suspicion that the Ottoman Empire was willing to annex Kuwait.
In exchange for British naval protection, Mubārak was not to negotiate or give territory to any other foreign power without British consent. With the discovery of oil in 1936, the city’s standard of living improved dramatically, including health and education services.
On August 2, 1990, Iraqi forces seized the city and on August 8 they annexed the emirate.[1] During the occupation, the city was extensively damaged and many buildings were destroyed after it, including the Kuwait National Museum.
After Iraqi forces retreated from Kuwait in January–February 1991, foreign investors and the Kuwaiti government were actively involved in modernizing the city and turning it into a world-class business hub. Many hotels, shopping malls and offices were built in the city indicating the economic growth since the war.

Kuwait City has an arid climate, featuring very hot summers. High temperatures typically range from 38–46 degrees Celsius during the summer. A Kuwait City summer heatwave can see temperatures soar as high as 50 degrees, and extreme ones can push temperatures even higher. Winter temperatures are much cooler than summer. Kuwait City sees some rain during the winter at times but during summers, rain is very rare, normally there is none. The wettest month is January, but even then, around about 25 days see no rain. During spring, average temperatures start to warm up. Some rain is possible in the early spring. Dust storms occur at times during summer from the shamal wind, with temperatures now soaring. Dust storms can occur anytime of year but occur mostly during summer. During autumn, temperatures begin to cool down and duststorms occur less frequently. Around November, rain becomes more frequent. On average, Kuwait City sees about 32 wet days, leaving 333 dry days.
Kuwait City (Arabic: مدينة الكويت, transliteration: Madīnat al-Kuwayt), is the capital of Kuwait. It has a population of 2.38 million in the metropolitan area. Located at the heart of the country on the shore of the Persian Gulf, and containing Kuwait's parliament (Majlis Al-Umma), most governmental offices, the headquarters of most Kuwaiti corporations and banks, it is the indisputable political, cultural and economic center of the emirate.
Kuwait City’s trade and transportation needs are served by Kuwait International Airport, Mina Al-Shuwaik (Shuwaik Port) and Mina al-Ahmadi (Ahmadi Port) 50 kilometers to the south, on the Persian Gulf coast.

Bodyguard’ first look: Kareena Kapoor in desi style

‘Bodyguard’ first look: Kareena Kapoor in desi style: The year 2010 saw less of Kareena Kapoor, but the actress is all set to wow us with her releases this year, especially Bodyguard, where she stars opposite Salman Khan.

You would love what Bebo is wearing in Bodyguard. The style looks set to influence the way a girl would dress the coming season with her very desi yet boho look (check out the images). Designer Manish Malhotra, who is Bebo’s good friend, has created Pakistani long kurtas with high slits in crispy cotton and she is teaming it up with printed salwars in bright-colours. “This will start a new trend for youngsters too of long Pakistani kurtas with high slits and big ghera salwars,” a source is quoted as saying.
As Kareena gets to play a simple college-going girl in Bodyguard, this desi look makes her appearance very fresh, lovely and young. She will also be seen sporting lots of bangles and oxidised, silver junks which Manish has collected from various places.
It seems with Bodyguard, Bebo will also rekindle her Jab We Met style. Remember how with her feisty portrayal of a Punjabi kudi Geet, she made kurtis very famous.

Try a Thinkpad T-series. Best-built for the money, with user-replaceable parts (try finding that on most machines today), and a keyboard that puts all others to shame.

ThinkPad displays suck, otherwise a nice computer. Huge mistake on Lenovo's behalf imo.

Thanks for all the compliments :)

Maybe you could 'redo' it and mention Front Row and the built-in iSight in the features list?I'm working on it as we speak! Expect something by tomorrow morning!

I had an iPad (1st gen) and liked it to an extent. I "need" a computer with me at all times, and the iPad just didn't cut it for me. I gave that to my dad and got an 11" MBA with 4GB, and fell in love. I no longer have to carry the 15 MBP around with me, and the air is such a nice weight and size, and packs the same punch as it's bigger brother the pro with certain obvious limitations. I would go ahead and get a $25 USB DVD burner from newegg, and consider using USB drives or cloud storage as you mentioned. as far as iwork/office goes, if you are making these presentations and not distributing it to others, iwork would be fine. If others are giving you powerpoints and you are displaying them, you might want to get office to ensure compatibility.

I got the GT5 Ps3 bundle and am quite happy...except for the idiotic bundling of Grown Ups?????? WTF is that and why on earth would I need that movie on BluRay? Couldn't have done Cars, Bullit (going for 10 dollars anyways and snagged it), Gone in 60 or something car related? It just doesn't make sense.

But I did save 10 bucks on GT5.

But yeah they are annoying. All the consoles are due for a price drop but they won't do it for a while so instead they'll do bundles for probably 6 months or so to add "perceived value". Very common marketing tactic for moving old volume. Very typical to see this at this time and it's not really going to change until the end of their life cycles....in fact I imagine it'll get worse (ie Two games, value cards, etc).

Yeh but ...... "every other sandy bridge computer is a 'PC' and Dell/HP appear to have more stock (sandy bridge) or in the process of ramping up production, when the news broke.

Yep and they'll have to right off that stock and/or get intel to cover the cost. The point is that this affects every computer maker. I'd not really single out one or two makers. What about Lenovo, they have sandy bridge computers, or Acer, Asus, or Gateway?

a 500 dually should be planty fast, although im not sure if those 2 500s act as a 1ghz in osx, or if the application has to be multithreaded

maybe somone could answer thatActs as two 500MHz CPUs, the OS does a decent job of handling the threads in Tiger now.

But most apps aren't really multithreaded, unless you take a look at some of the Pro apps.

Even with BSDs SMPng, people still say there are some problems with the way Tiger handles threads and a ways to go.

But there is a lot to like about OS Xs SMP capability also.

OS X is much better than OS 9, which would basically make use of the machine as a single 500 MHz machine -- except for the apps that make use of the multi-CPU extension for some of their filters and plug-ins.

other Rumors mainly from the survey taken a while back seem's like there will be a Built in netflix app no disc needed
Great, so we'll have to pay for built-in Netflix just like on the 360? I hope not, esp. since the disc version is already free (though slower and worse than the 360 implementation, for sure).

I run a business. I send Excel files to customers. I **need** the files to be perfect, no voodoo at all, no weirdness with fonts or file conversion or print area. If it's even slightly voodoo-istic, I will not be able to use it since almost everything I do with Excel is loaded by my customers on a PC.

To be honest, I think the only way to achieve 100% Excel compatibility is to, well, use Excel.

I mean for ordinary personal stuff I'm sure cross-compatibility will be no problem. But if you are running a business in which you are constantly sending and receiving Excel files, I'd probably just bite the bullet and continue to use Excel.

It may be somewhat easier to achieve good results with Excel than Word though, since spreadsheets typically are less focused on style and formatting.

    I agree with arcobb.

I have the early 09 2.0Ghz with CTO 4GB RAM and the late 09 2.53Ghz stock with 4GB RAM.

I do notice a difference with video encoding but not really with other tasks, I think. Though it does depend what you're doing whether you'll notice much of a difference. You may do tasks that would benefit from a faster CPU that I don't.

There is no 2011 Mini yet (the current models are mid-2010), so it's difficult to say yet whether it'll be worth the upgrade to the new models that come out hopefully within a few months or so.

If you get a new Mini you may as well upgrade it using 3rd party RAM and get 8GB (2x4GB) RAM.

Whilst the RAM is easier to upgrade in the 2010 Mini, the hard drive is harder to upgrade in the 2010 Mini.

You could just put a SSD in your current Mini. If you don't want the optical drive in your current Mini you could put a couple of SSDs in RAID-0 (or have a SSD and a hard drive) in the Mini e.g. using the OWC Data Doubler: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/DDMMCL0GB/

In case you were wondering you can put 8GB RAM (2x4GB) In your current mini, but you need to make sure you've installed the EFI Firmware Update 1.2 from August 2009 first: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL888

Instructions for checking whether you've already installed that update are here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237

I have never gotten any Apple product on Launch day but I love my IPad so I am pretty sure I will love an IPad 2 which is the reason I want to go get one on Launch day. I want to know if anyone is planning on going to BB in Greensboro to pick up their IPad 2 and your experience if you went to the launch of the IPad at BB. I don't get off until 3pm and I want to make sure I get there in time to get one since I am seeing that BB got 10-15 IPads on launch day which seems unreal to me. Any info would be great.

Hi, I want to put some CD's that I purchased on my iTunes to put on my iPod. The only problem is that I am getting a new laptop soon, my BlackBook is dyeing.)))): Well, so far I have bought all my music on iTunes, but it's so expensive. I bought many CD's like I said, and I'm putting them on iTunes. When I plug the iPod into a new computer, it would ask me if I wanted to transfer my purchases. And everything that I bought would transfer. The songs that I got from other websites wouldn't transfer. But If I import the CD's through iTunes, will it still transfer to the new computer? Or do they have to be bought from iTunes?

    Thank You!

I was in a similar, ish, situation. Other half has Pokemon Black, but our DS Lites don't like our WiFi (how dare we use WPA...), so we decided to upgrade one unit to something more modern.

Initially we bought a 3DS, but sent it back within a few days. The handling of DS games on the upper screen isn't that good to be honest (scaling issues), and we felt the 3D was a waste of time and money. Instead we picked up a new DSi for 95 (love airports), and it's great - less than half the cost, far superior battery life, and also supports WPA and the DSi store.

ha! i actually bought this cd off itunes a few months ago. could do with some more sequencing and layering. but what it is great for is sampling. i took one of the ink cartridge hitting the side of the caseing sounds and processed it into a kick drum. heres a rough mix.

Well, at least yours is ... um ... musical.

Neither is exactly in my tastes, though I could imagine a dot-matrix "song" that might be interesting in the way trained seals playing bike horns is interesting.
